2012 Riesling Block 1

2012 Riesling Block 1

DOWNLOAD TASTING NOTE

While initially quite reserved aromatically, hints of spring blossom, white peach and apricot come to the fore. In contrast the palate detonates through the mouth. Rich dollops of peach ice-cream, intense lime, layer upon layer of a cornucopia of fruit until the palate gradually crisps and allows the mineral and acid to bring the whole show to an end.

Michael Cooper's Buying Guide 2014

Estate-grown in The Elms Vineyard, on a ‘steeper slope’ which yields ‘riper fruit’ without noble rot, this Bannockburn wine is made in a style ‘similar to a late-harvest, Mosel spätlese’. The 2012 (*****) is very rich, with intense, citrusy, peachy flavours and a racy, lasting finish.

The 2012 Block 1 Riesling presents a nose that is a little youthfully mute yet still offers delicate wafts of peach blossoms, fresh grapefruit and lemongrass, plus hints of jasmine and lime zest. Medium-sweet and light-bodied in style with a lower level of alcohol (8.5%), it is beautifully concentrated on the palate with a long, honeyed-lemon finish. Drink it now to 2020+. 91 points
